The Miracle Beyond Victory

Hello valued friends, partners, and colleagues,

Sometimes the greatest miracle isn’t found in lifting the trophy.

Sometimes it’s found in the person we become, the lives we touch, and the gratitude we carry, regardless of the final score.

This World Cup has given us moments none of us will ever forget.

We have celebrated.

We have cried.

We have held our breath.

We have witnessed incredible triumphs, heartbreaking defeats, and moments that reminded us why the beautiful game unites the world.

Yet, as I reflect on everything this World Cup has taught me, it wasn’t one of football’s traditional giants that left the greatest impression on my heart.

It was Cape Verde.

A nation of roughly 600,000 people.

A country making its first ever appearance on the world’s biggest stage.

A team that arrived with little international experience, yet with an abundance of joy, humility, gratitude, and belief.

Then there is their goalkeeper, Vozinha.

At 40 years old, he became one of the oldest goalkeepers ever to make a World Cup debut. His professional career didn’t even begin until his mid twenties. For years, he quietly pursued his dream while playing far away from the spotlight. Few people outside of football knew his name.

Then, one tournament changed everything.

The world fell in love with him because of the remarkable saves he made, but even more because of the person he revealed himself to be.

His humility.

His perseverance.

His gratitude.

One of the most touching moments was seeing his mother finally able to attend the World Cup after receiving her visa in time. Behind every athlete is often a family that has prayed, sacrificed, and believed long before the world ever noticed.

Cape Verde may not have lifted the trophy.

Yet somehow, they walked away as champions in the hearts of millions.

What touched me most wasn’t whether they won or lost.

It was the way they carried themselves.

They celebrated every save.

They celebrated every goal.

They celebrated simply being there.

Even after defeat, they walked off the field with smiles, knowing they had competed against some of the greatest teams in the world. Their joy wasn’t dependent on the final score. Their gratitude was greater than the result.

That is a lesson I hope I never forget.

Life doesn’t always unfold the way we hope.

Sometimes we don’t get the promotion.

Sometimes the deal falls through.

Sometimes the championship slips away.

Sometimes the dream takes longer than we imagined.

But our character is revealed not in how we celebrate victory.

It is revealed in how we respond to disappointment.

Can we still smile?

Can we still be grateful?

Can we still hold our heads high, knowing we gave everything we had?

Because sometimes, showing up with courage is already a victory.

This World Cup reminded me that football has never really been just about football.

It is about fathers and daughters watching together.

It is about holding someone’s hand during extra time.

It is about tears of joy.

It is about hope.

It is about strangers becoming friends.

It is about nations celebrating together.

It is about creating memories that last a lifetime.

As I sat beside my father, cheering, celebrating, and living every moment together, I realized that one day I may not remember every score.

But I will always remember how those moments made me feel.

Those are the victories that matter most.

Cape Verde reminded us that perseverance can inspire the world.

Vozinha reminded us that it is never too late for your breakthrough.

This beautiful game reminded us that victories come in many forms.

So today, whatever field you are standing on, whether in your career, your family, your business, or your personal life, step onto it with courage.

Give it everything you have.

Celebrate every opportunity.

Lead with humility.

Choose gratitude regardless of the outcome.

Because sometimes the greatest miracle isn’t winning the trophy.

Sometimes the greatest miracle is discovering that your perseverance, your kindness, your humility, and your gratitude become a victory that inspires the world.

That is the miracle beyond victory!

With love and gratitude,

Luisa
