Hello valued friends, partners, and colleagues,
Over the past two weeks, I have witnessed something beautiful.
In a world that often feels divided by politics, religion, and conflict, sports have reminded us of something we desperately need to remember: we are far more alike than we are different.
The NBA Finals brought New Yorkers together in a way that was impossible to ignore. Strangers gathered around screens, celebrated together, hugged one another, and shared moments of pure joy. For a few hours, differences disappeared, and a city became one team.
The FIFA World Cup has taken that feeling to a global level. Across the United States, fans from every corner of the world are coming together, not as rivals, but as people connected by a shared love of the game. Cities are alive with energy, cultures are being celebrated, and visitors are discovering the warmth and hospitality that make this country so special.
I experienced this firsthand at the Brazil vs. Morocco match at the New York/New Jersey Stadium. While proudly carrying a Brazilian flag, I was surrounded by Moroccan fans who invited me to unite our flags for a photo. Throughout the match, supporters from both nations shared laughs, conversations, and unforgettable moments.
That same spirit extended far beyond a single game and into Kansas City, where I witnessed Algerian, Argentinian, and American fans embracing one another, exchanging jerseys, and celebrating side by side. One moment that stayed with me was seeing two local Kansas City fans swap their Argentina jerseys for Algeria jerseys simply to join the celebration in their section, drawing cheers from the entire crowd.
Moments like these remind us that football has a unique power to unite people across cultures, languages, and borders. In a world that often focuses on what divides us, the beautiful game continues to show us what brings us together.
Those moments may seem small, but they are powerful reminders of what is possible when people choose connection over division.
The stories that have touched me most involve children. A young Mexican boy who could not afford a Mexican jersey and instead proudly wore a Christmas sweater because it was the only thing he owned in the colors of his flag. When the Mexican team heard his story, they surprised him with an official jersey.
Another underprivileged child welcomed the South African team with a handmade sign and was later gifted a signed jersey in return for his hospitality.
These moments are happening everywhere.
Fans are exchanging jerseys.
Fans are exchanging hugs.
Fans are exchanging hope.
Sports does not solve every problem in the world, but it creates something we all need more of, connection.
For a few hours, politics fade away. Differences become secondary. People from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds stand shoulder to shoulder, cheering, laughing, and celebrating together.
Perhaps this is exactly what the world needs.
More Unity.
More Positivity.
More Love.
More moments that remind us of our shared humanity.
As I reflect on these past two weeks, one thing is clear:
The world is craving connection.
The world is craving hope.
The world is craving healing.
I’m grateful that Sports is helping us find all three.
With love and gratitude,
Luisa
