Good day, friends and partners,
This week, I want to reflect on what it truly means to lead with a genuine heart.
Sharing five unforgettable days in Argentina alongside Kathy Nelson, President and CEO of Visit KC and the Kansas City Sports Commission, as we led Kansas City’s first official Sales Mission to Argentina, was truly a blessing and a gift. Experiencing her leadership up close left a profound and lasting impression on me.
What makes her leadership so special?
It is her kindness.
Her gentleness.
Her passion.
Her willingness to roll up her sleeves.
Her instinct to serve and uplift others.
She is a remarkable human being, a woman of faith whose leadership reflects both humility and strength. Being around her, I found myself thinking, this is what leading from the heart truly looks like.
One of the qualities I admired most was her openness to learning. It was beautiful to watch her intentionally write down, each day, the things she was learning. That is leadership.
Leadership is not about knowing it all.
It is about learning every day.
When a leader demonstrates curiosity and an open mind, it gives permission for the entire team to do the same. It reminds everyone that we all have more to learn, that growth never stops, and that wisdom is found in humility. There is something powerful about capturing new insights daily, staying teachable, and acknowledging that we do not have all the answers. That is precisely the beauty of leadership.
It is no surprise that Kathy and Kansas City are such a perfect match. Kansas City’s spirit is rooted in the heart. At the end of the day, anything we do that comes from the heart carries love, authenticity, and purpose.
When we lead from the heart:
Ego fades.
Connection deepens.
People feel seen.
Learning becomes constant.
Impact becomes lasting.
Leadership rooted in the heart allows us to inspire, to relate, and to serve in ways that titles alone never can. It gives us the courage to see beyond ourselves and genuinely care about those we are called to lead.
Here are three ways you can lead from the heart this week:
1. Choose service over status. Ask how you can help before asking how you can be recognized.
2. Lead with curiosity. Write down one thing you learned each day and remain intentionally teachable.
3. Stay grounded in purpose. Let your values guide your decisions, especially under pressure.
Leading from the heart is an extraordinary gift. It is strength wrapped in humility. It is an influence rooted in love.
It is my great honor to recognize Kathy Nelson as a leader who embodies this so beautifully.
May we all strive to lead not just with vision, but with heart. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Luisa
